There were at least 8 people killed and several dozen injured. Some of the victims were found 300 to 400 yards from abandoned vehicles. 113 cars were blown off the highway.
Land Run
The biggest land run occurred on Sept. 7, 1893. More than a 100,000 setters come into Oklahoma. It was the first land rush into the unassigned.
The Turner Turnpike connects Oklahoma city and Tulsa. It was opened in May 1953. It is 83 miles long.
Oil Boom
The first oil boom in Oklahoma was in 1917. Oil in Oklahoma was first discovered by accident in 1859. People from Kansas came over to harvest oil.
The Trail Of Tears happened when the government wanted more land, so they forced the Indians off their land. They went over 5 states. It took them 12 years to move them! There were five tribes in the trail of tears. The final destination of the Trail Of Tears ended in Oklahoma.
